With the rise of cryptocurrencies, in particular Bitcoin, there has been significant attention being paid to the emerging technology area of the blockchain. Currently there are wide ranging views on the usefulness of both cryptocurrencies and the blockchain, with opinions ranging from the technology being the new internet to the it being the new dot-com bubble.
Study focus areas and objectives
This report aims to provide an overview of the global blockchain and cryptocurremcy landscape, providing an overview of the key concepts around the technology, as well as blockchain use cases and profiles of the most popular cryptocurrencies at the moment. We also look at the local blockchain market in South Africa, as well as taking a few on the different scenarios for cryptocurrencies in the short, mid and long-term.
